Non-Surgical Facelift-Contour Threads™

Have you ever looked in the mirror and pulled up your cheeks or eyebrows to a higher position and wished they would stay there?

Now there is a simple, new minimally invasive technique to uplift and reposition the sagging facial and brow contours. Contour Threads™ are the only FDA approved non-absorbable barbed sutures developed for facial rejuvenation.

Contour Threads™– a non surgical facelift alternative

Because the natural aging process causes loss of structural collagen and springy elastin proteins, the skin loosens and sags. The facial fat pads on the cheeks and jowls droop downwards and produce sagging, creases, folds and wrinkles. By gently uplifting sagging facial tissues to their former youthful position, the Contour Threads™ technique allows the surgeon to restore a relaxed, natural appearing result while preserving and enhancing the natural contours of your face.
This procedure is not designed to replace a conventional facelift, however, it offers patients a significant, minimally invasive non-cutting alternative.

Who will benefit from Contour Threads™?

The best candidates for this procedure include both men and women in their thirties through their sixties who desire a more youthful appearance but do not want a traditional facelift or brow lift cutting procedure.

A consultation with Dr. Presant is recommended.

What areas can be treated?

Contour Threads™ are used for:

What are “barbed sutures”?

These specially designed sutures are made from clear polypropylene, a suture material that has been used in the body for decades. Unlike conventional sutures which are smooth, Contour Threads™ have tiny cogs or barbs, that are evenly spaced. After insertion below the skin, the cogs extend like an umbrella when the tissues are uplifted, gently suspending the sagging tissues of the brow and face. Over the next few weeks, the body generates new collagen fibers that surround each thread and lock it in place.  The placement of the threads will vary slightly
based on each individual’s anatomy. Unlike other thread products, Contour Threads™ are transparent, so they are not visible under the skin.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure is quick and performed under local anesthesia. The number of threads used will determine the actual length of time. A typical procedure usually takes approximately one hour to perform.

How long is the recovery?

In most cases there is minimal discomfort or bruising. Mild swelling is usual and resolves in a few days with cold compresses. Patients can normally return to work or normal activities in a few days to one week.

How long do the results last?

Duration varies depending on the age of the patient at the time of the procedure, the degree of sagging, and the number of threads used. A significant advantage is that additional threads can easily be added as needed to maintain natural looking results.

What are the possible side effects?

The Contour Threads™ procedure is a simple procedure to perform. Complications are rare. Since this technique is entirely reversible, unwanted effects are usually easily corrected under local anesthesia.

Can this procedure be combined with other cosmetic procedures?
This is a stand alone procedure. It is not uncommon to have this procedure combined with Botox® to reduce facial muscle hyperactivity, dermal fillers such as Restylane to enhance volume, or peels and laser therapy to improve skin texture. Liposuction or radio frequency skin tightening of the neck are some of the other procedures that can be done in conjunction with a Contour Threads™ procedure.

Will I still be able to have a conventional/traditional facelift or browlift in the future?

Absolutely. Developed by a plastic surgeon, the unique design of Contour Threads™ allows a traditional facelift or browlift procedure when you are ready.
